Reservation of Travel Money

This internet ordering service (the "Service") is provided by FXA .  If you purchase foreign currency as contemplated in these Online Terms and Conditions, you will enter into a transaction with FXA.

These Online Terms and Conditions apply to the internet order service on the Website (the “Service”), which consists of an online reservation facility for foreign currency banknotes, pre-paid travel cards (“Cash Passport”) and Travellers Cheques (collectively, "Travel Money").

In South Africa, the purchase of foreign currency is subject to exchange control requirements administered by the South African Reserve Bank. FXA is an authorised dealer with limited authority which can facilitate foreign currency purchases.  You are responsible for complying with exchange control requirements including the limit on permissible foreign currency purchases in any year and the requirement to convert unused foreign currency to South African Rands upon your return to South Africa.

Use of the Service

The Service is only available to individuals aged 18 years or over, and who are resident in and accessing the Service from South Africa. The Service may only be used to reserve Travel Money for holiday or business travel and not for speculative, investment or any other purposes. By reserving Travel Money as contemplated in these Online Terms and Conditions, you confirm that you have read and understood the Online Terms and Conditions and agree to be bound by them and to comply with all applicable laws and regulations.

The Service is only available for the currencies listed from time to time on the online ordering screen. All orders are subject to a maximum value of ZAR 1m per person per order. This is the maximum amount that a South African resident is allowed to exchange per year.  There is no minimum order value for orders (except Cash Passport orders*); however the minimum commission on any transaction is ZAR 57 (including VAT) plus an administration fee of ZAR 49 (including VAT). Currency availability may also be subject to further monetary limits, currency exchange restrictions and to customers complying with all applicable laws and regulations, including those relating to anti-money laundering regulations.

*Our MasterCard® Cash Passport is subject to an initial minimum load amount of USD 100, GBP 100, AUD 100 or EUR 100 as applicable

Please note that the rates available on the Website are set separately from the rates provided in-store, and may therefore vary. You will not be able to get our Website rates in-store unless you have pre-ordered your currency through the Website.

Placing an Order

When you place your order, you will be given the option of whether you want to collect your order at the locations listed from time to time on the online reservation screen.

You can order online up to 60 days in advance of the collection date.  Selected currencies will be available for collection after 24 hours, provided that we receive and subsequently confirm your order by 15:00 p.m. on the day on which you place your order. All other currencies will be available for collection after 3 days**, provided that we receive and subsequently confirm your order by 15:00 p.m. on the day on which you place your order.

** Our 3-day promise applies to orders placed between Monday to Friday. If a currency is ordered before 15.00 p.m. on a Saturday up until 15.00 p.m. on a Sunday, it will be available for collection the following Wednesday.

To place an order, follow the instructions on the reservation screen. Once you have entered the reservation screen you must complete your order within 20 minutes otherwise your session may time out and you will have to restart the order process. You are able to correct errors on your order up until the point at which you click on "Reserve My Currency Now" on the reservation details screen. You will not be required to enter any payment details on our online reservation form – payment for your order will be taken from you on collection of your order from your chosen Travelex location.

Exchange Rates: the exchange rates we quote online are real time rates and are subject to change. The exchange rate provided in your order is indicative of the rate you could receive at your chosen Travelex location. Please note that the rate may have changed (up or down) by the time you decide to collect your currency, even where you collect your currency on the same day. Upon collection of your currency, the exchange rate applicable to your purchase shall be either the Website rate at the time of collection or the walk-in rate at the time of collection, whichever is more preferable to you.

We reserve the right to request further information from you at any time to enable us to complete your order and/or to comply with regulatory requirements.  All such information will be used by us strictly in accordance with our Privacy Policy. By placing an order, you confirm that the details contained in the order are correct in all respects. The system will display a confirmation screen setting out the details of your order. This confirms receipt of your order. We may, at any time, decline to process your order or any part of your order for any reason. A contract between you and us is only formed when we send you a confirmation email that your order has been accepted. Please print a copy of the confirmation screen for your records and print or store the confirmation email in a safe place, as it will be the only record of your order.

Collecting Your Travel Money

You will be required to pay for your Travel Money on collection. Orders may only be collected by the person named on the order form from the Travelex location set out in your confirmation email.  Collection is subject to the opening times of the collection location. Details for the opening times of the collection location will be notified to you at the time of the order and can be obtained on the Website. Please remember to allow sufficient time to collect your Travel Money before departing on your travels.

At the time of collection you will need to produce a valid passport, proof of your residential address (such as in the form of a municipal bill), a copy of your travel itinerary or booking reference number, and a copy of an e-ticket or physical travel ticket.  Depending on your order, Travelex reserves the right to ask for further information and identification in accordance with its anti-money laundering policies and anti-money laundering requirements under relevant laws. The name on any card used to make the purchase must match that on the identification document(s) used. In order to enable Travelex to comply with its anti-money laundering and other legal obligations and its internal risk and fraud policies, Travelex reserves the right to take a copy of your identification document(s) and the card used to make the purchase, at the time of collection.  Any information requested by Travelex will be used by us strictly in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which can be accessed here.
