ACQUISITION OF TRAVELEX’S SOUTH AFRICAN ASSETS
Tourvest Financial Services (Pty) Ltd has recently acquired 100% of the South African assets of global foreign
exchange group Travelex. Travelex is the world’s largest independent foreign exchange provider with
over 1 200 stores in 27 countries, employing more than 9 000 people.
The deal was concluded earlier this year following Competition Commission approval with Tourvest Holdings (Pty) Ltd
owning 75% of the new business and Travelex UK Ltd owning the rest. Additionally, as of 30 June 2019, all
our stores will be rebranded to Travelex and American Express OR Tambo Arrivals store will be rebranded FOREX Change as a result of our brand licensing agreement with American
Express coming to an end.
With a market share in excess of 20%, the combined Tourvest/Travelex business becomes South
Africa’s largest retail foreign exchange provider. In addition to the many substantial synergies and
efficiency gains potential between the two companies, we believe the deal will also be advantageous
to you, our valued customer.
These benefits include our greatly increased South African branch network, which has close to
doubled from 53 to 87, international support through Travelex’s global presence, and the ability to
enhance our offering to you through the introduction of new products and services.
